Mr. Jeff teaches guitar. Tip of the week, “Is there a certain part of song or exercise that is still tripping you up? Take that part and play it over slow, until your fingers are are getting familiar with the movements. And when you are starting to play it confidently, set a goal of trying to play. 5 or 10 times in a row without messing up~

NEVER RIP PAGES OUT OF YOUR SKETCH BOOK!!! I cannot stress this enough. Do not throw out your drawings.

I don’t care how much you hate your drawing.

I don’t care how “stupid” or “terrible” you think the drawing is, you have to keep it. 

Why?

Because, even if the drawing is bad, the idea can be terrific.  I can’t tell you how many great comic book ideas I’ve gotten by looking at very old (and bad) sketches.  If I threw out the sketches I thought were terrible I would of lost that great idea.  So keep your sketches, your future self will thank you!

My favorite song is No Longer Slaves. I sang this Christian song as a solo at my church (Calvary Baptist Church).

What is your favorite animal?

My favorite animal is a Hummingbird because of how small it is, and how fast they fly.

What is your favorite dessert?

My favorite dessert is brownies and ice cream

What is your favorite trip or dream vacation?

I have always wanted to go to Australia, because of the nice weather, exotic animals and different scenery.

Do you have any pets and what are their names?

I have 2 birds whose names are Spike and Lola. They are cockatiels. They are very playful and cute.

What grade are you in?

I am a freshman this year and I’m attending The Bounds Academy which is a private school.

Do you have any extracurricular that you do after school?

I play volleyball after school through a program called Crossfire. We have practices every Mondays and our games are every Saturday at the Roswell Rec. Center.

Why do you like coming to the Canton Arts Academy?

I like attending the Canton Arts Academy, because it gives me a place I can come learn and practice piano to become a great musician one day.

Sophie Ray and Bear are brother and sister/3 years old.  They were born on July 4th. 

We found them on the side of the road at 8 weeks old:)

They love to all wrestle!

Celebrating Student Achievement • The Musical Ladder System®

Canton Arts Academy is the only music schools in the Cherokee County that gives their students the opportunity to earn special color wristband bracelets (kids and teens love them!), trophies AND certificates for passing musical tests with the Musical Ladder System®. It was actually created by academy Director Marty Fort, has a patent pending and is being used by schools nationwide. Do other schools offer trophies and certificates? A few. But none of them inspire their students with smiling faces by giving them full color, really cool “Musical Ladder System®” wristbands that they can show off to their friends.
More importantly when our students have a test coming up, they practice more, their parents are proud, their teachers are proud, and everybody wins!

Why Trophies and Bracelets?

When I was just starting out as a piano teacher, my little students would look up at me curiously and ask, “When will I be ‘done’ learning piano?” And I would want to say, “NEVER! You always keep learning! You’re never ‘done!'” Even though I was young, I knew this was not the right answer. I realized that these students needed benchmarks. The process of learning is long. The journey feels unending (especially when you are 7!). That’s why we have the Musical Ladder System.
 
The Musical Ladder System shows kids mile markers that they are striving for. Every 90 days, they are given a test, which displays their progress and understanding of what they have been working on. Kids feel great pride and ownership when they pass their next level. They can hold something tangible in their hands that says “I’m progressing! I’m learning! I’m doing this!”
 
We believe everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. That’s why each test is carefully created for the individual student. We do not have a central curriculum–we tailor each lesson to the individual student.  Personality styles, learning styles, and age all play a role in how quickly a student will grasp various skills. 
 
The teachers at Canton Arts Academy are carefully chosen to teach at our school. They know that each student is an individual! We all LOVE one-on-one lessons because we can give each student our full attention for the full lesson. There is nothing more powerful than that! 
 
The students at our school eagerly ask, “When’s my next test?!” Now, when have you ever seen kids EXCITED about a test before?? This is what tells me that The Musical Ladder System is working!
